What is happening in Brussels and Washington is relevant to us

During the past few years, one of the criticisms constantly made by Iranian opposition toward the European and American authorities has been their relationship with Iranian regime. As Iran and its political situation is important to European parliament and the US Congress, so their political interaction with Iranian regime is important to Iranian opposition. However, in this short article, I am not intended to talk about European, US, or Iranian regime foreign policy but I am trying to address short- and long-term national interests of Iranian people.

On Thursday, February 13, US congress discussed Trump administration’s military plans against the Islamic regime of Iran. Beside democrats, some of the republicans also tended to limit Trump’s military authority against Iran by passing resolution restricting him from using military force against Iran without congressional authorization.
A few days ago, I attended a meeting held by Belgian Liberal Democratic Party and delivered a short speech about refugee crisis and radicalism in the Middle East with an implicit approval of President Trump’s political approach toward Iranian regime. Some of the attendees, however, were surprised by my approval. Now, the question is what is causing such reaction? Why different interaction with President Trump’s political approaches raises question even for Europeans?

Most Europeans’, US democratic party, and its supporters’ criticisms toward President Trump’s policy, specifically about Islamic regime of Tehran, are based on their short-term national interests, while, the Islamic regime is a global issue. Islamic regime remains one of the most important factors in intensification of the radicalism at regional and global level. With Khomeini coming into power and establishment of Islamic Republic regime as Iran political system, export of the revolution doctrine was promoted on Iranian foreign policy agenda. In fact, after a successful revolution and Shah’s escape from Iran, establishment of Khomeini’s power inside Iran borders seemed much easier compared to export of the revolution outside Iran borders. The reason was that world decided to support Khomeini and his regime in some way at the time by developing a good economic relationship and overlooking the human rights violations.

Nowadays that President Trump is confronting the Islamic Regime and its destructive regional policies, once again, European and US democratic party tend to support Islamic Regime by continuing economic relationship with Tehran, finding ways to compensate bank restrictions, and passing restricting congressional resolutions preventing President Trump from using his presidential full power against Islamic regime.
Obviously, no freedom-seeking person appreciates foreign interference in the internal affairs of their country. However, the point is that “No external interference”, these days, has become a strong propaganda indicating lack of true understanding of the current regional and internal situation caused by Islamic regime’s brutal policies. In other words, considering the past 40 years, Islamic regime is a threat not only for Iranian people, but also for the world. Thus, it is vital that anyone who values freedom, security, human rights, secularism, and democracy take part in defeating Islamic Republic regime.

Accordingly, it is very important to avoid accusing the opposition of having an eye on foreign countries and continue our political efforts in enlightening public opinion and creating a global coalition against the Islamic regime.
